The Tomonokai program (Friends of Japan House) was established in the fall of 1998 with a goal of supporting Japan House's needs along with promoting an understanding of Japanese and Asian culture. As a member of the Tomonokai, members can partake of activities including workshops, tours, seminars, lectures, and fundraisers. The Tomonokai is also a source of volunteer support for Japan House activities. Volunteer activities include acting as docents and volunteer coordinators, assisting with tours, helping visiting artists while they are on campus, and working with others to prepare and carry out fund raising events.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Japan House Tomonokai or you would like to become a volunteer, please contact Nancy Quinn at Japan House (217-244-9934) and she will be happy to send you a membership form or give you information about volunteering at Japan House.

Tomonokai members who provide monetary support to Japan House receive a Tomonokai card in recognition of their donation. Members of this group are invited to attend various events at Japan House such as guest artist receptions, special events and A Taste of Japan seminar series. Generally there are discounted entrance fees for members when registration for special events is required.
